Call to Action Healthcare is a national issue with an antiquated structure full of biases. The current environment may be empowering our institutions to maintain self-interest over morality. In this book, I explain my personal experiences with gender bias during my 28 year career as an emergency physician affiliated with the University of Rochester. I am happy to hear there is a new (2019) Office of Equity and Inclusion at the University of Rochester. Frontline workers are mostly women and they need basic policies to protect them. Legislation must prioritize: Prevent workplace harassment Eliminate the pay gap Legislate paid sick days and paid leave Fund child care for families End pregnancy and caregiver discrimination Advice for Students: Follow your dreams Maintain your values Never give up Speak truth to power
